How a 3 Letter Word Can Change Your Life

HOW A 3 LETTER WORD CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE

Why would I make such a bold claim? Well, it took me years to discover a well-known secret that has been used for generations as a beacon to find meaning. This 3 letter, one-syllable word has been the object of both fear and salvation. It is used in churches, temples, schools, songs, and in the holy realms of casual conversation. Chances are, you have heard this word every single day of your life. You know what it is. It’s at the tip of your tongue at this very moment…

No, it’s not God . In fact, you’ve already read it. It’s the first word of this article. The 3 letter word that will change your life is why .

But why?

When I was a child, one of my favorite toys to play with was a wind-up car. I’d twist the key on top of it, revving it up as much as I could – then I would point it in any direction I pleased and watch the car go.

As children, we are very much like wind-up cars: raised and pointed in directions chosen by others. Of course, this is an essential part of our development and why we need proper guidance from our parents. However, sometimes our parents don’t quite grow out of playing with their toys and continue holding on to the keys of our lives.

Regardless of what direction you’re going in, asking yourself “why am I going there?” is the first step to taking ownership of your life.

But for almost every answer there is yet another “why?”, and so it is important that you keep digging. The goal is to be truly satisfied with the destination you are headed towards – and that involves honesty.

Whether it be the influence of our parents, friends, or society, our minds have been conditioned to see in limited directions. Truly being honest with yourself removes the blinders and allows you to witness the entire scope of possibility.

It’s also important to realize that the road to truth does not exist: it’s almost always off-road. The terrain is anything but paved; rather it is an uncomfortable and dangerous trek through dirt, mountains, and snakes, which is precisely why most people avoid even turning towards that direction by questioning their choices. But as time goes on, even a prison begins to feel like home – and that is when it truly becomes inescapable. Therefore, as a young student, moving in the direction of your passions and desires is of insurmountable value. Fortune favors the bold and it is utterly infatuated with the youth. There is ultimately nothing to fear: to make one’s own decisions, including mistakes, is to exercise the muscle of freedom.

You don’t need to take the red pill, reach enlightenment, or meet the Dalai Lama to discover who you are. All you need is to question your actions and have the courage to answer honestly.

And remember that honesty, like anything else, takes practice.
